Derek Billings

Artist Spotlight | The Art of the Ride – Tour de Pier

As part of The Art of the Ride, local artists are transforming stationary spin bikes into bold works of public art across Manhattan Beach. Derek Billings is a Manhattan Beach-based artist whose colorful abstract pieces capture the spirit of California beach life.

Billings is an artist, graphic designer, and stay-at-home dad who has spent more than 20 years working in design. His creative work reflects the vibrant energy of the coastal community he calls home. Using bright colors and bold compositions, Billings creates abstract interpretations of surf culture, beach landscapes, and California living.

Often working with wood panels and exotic hardwoods, his pieces transform natural materials into playful, expressive artwork that celebrates the rhythm and color of life by the ocean.

His design reflects the joy and freedom of the beach lifestyle — reminding us that community connection can help drive meaningful progress.

For The Art of the Ride, Billings brings his signature color and coastal energy to the project, turning a stationary bike into a vivid celebration of movement and creativity.

Derek’s bike will be on display at Skechers as part of The Art of the Ride, a city-wide art experience building momentum for Tour de Pier 2026. Thanks to Skechers for their continued sponsorship and support of the Tour de Pier!
