At nine years old I lost my best friend to cancer. I remember wanting to fight, to do something to help him. As kids do, I innocently asked him how I could help. He said, “play with me, I am tired of being treated like the sick kid.”
We skateboarded, he tried to teach me play the guitar and in his last months we went to Disneyland. He thanked me for being his friend and staying with him even when it got hard.
The energy of the Tour de Pier reminds me of that beautiful innocent feeling of kids playing together. The music, the laughter, being outside, and being together. I ride for so many that I have loved and lost. I ride for everyone that is fighting. I ride to heal my own heart. I ride for Jimmy.
